After Effects for newbie users
I have been working lately on After Effects CS3, and I am a newbie I have to admit. So I’m writing you to help other newbies which want to work on after effects small projects, a quick solution to some of the problems I’ve faced this week.
When you make a project and want to save it as a video file, you should not use the File->Export menu, because no matter what option you’ll choose the output quality will be terrible. Instead you should go to Composition and Make Movie (while your on your main composition). Then you will have to press the render button, but believe me you better do not click on it right away because you will get good quality uncompressed file. But the uncompressed file will take more then 1GB of your disk space if you compile a 30 sec. project, and you can not even play it normal, because any video player can’t play normally a 30 sec. clip which size its more then 1GB.

Another Free VPN server
While i was searching today on google, i was lucky to find another free vpn service for my blog readers. It a new company which honestly i have not tested yet, but they are offering free VPN service from a US and UK server. Interesting however i was not lucky, because they offer up to 100 free accounts per month, and i was late coz when i found them. They had already gave away 100 free accounts.
I have noticed that the first free VPN posted on my website is facing downtimes from time to time, thats why giving you an alternative is good. The comany name is hideipvpn and it can be found at www.hideipvpn.com . Today is 02 of november 2009, and according to their website they gave their 100 free accounts in less then 1 hour. So i have setup an alarm on my Iphone for 1 December 2009, and hopefully i will get an account and share it with you.
The reason why i decided to review them is because hideipvpn does not force you to download their software, which is cool. I dont trust anyone, and installing third party software can slow down your PC. HideIpVPN can be used under any OS (windows, Mac OS X, linux and even Iphone).
But i think you should try to get one at your own, because they might allow one one user name at a time to connect to the free VPN. If you achive to get one, it will be better for you, however if you share it with us on the comments it will be much better
. Sharing is caring.
Subscribe to my blog on the left, so you will get notified as soon as i update my blog about the www(dot)hideipvpn(dot)com service. I will also include details about the configuration procedure.
Update: I finaly had the chance to test their Free VPN service, and so far so goot. Works great. The speed is good and aceptable for a free service. I had to write them several emails till they activated it, but it really works. Unfortunetly it can only acept one connection at a time from the same username so i cant share it with you here. Try to get one from their website or tyu can use the previous posted VPN which is probably shown right after this post using the related post plugin
.

Exapndable banners in Flash SWF.
If you want to advertise your company with an expandable banner your in the right place. In this post i will include two tutorials how to create an expandanle banner for free (you wont have to pay up to 200$ in expandablebanners.com).
The easiest way to do so is by downloading a Macromedia Flash alternative software called Alligator Flash Designer 8 and it can be downloaded from http://www.selteco.com/download/sfld.exe. As soon as you download and install, please run their software.
1.If you already run the Flash designer go to the menu at: Frame > Frame Size and choose a width/height for your banner. In my case i did 460 x 360.
2.Now go to Frame again and choose Frame Delay, Select the Stio Checkbox and click OK
3.Draw a rectangle with the Rectangle tool and make it’s size as the size of an original standard banner which is 480×60. This rectangle will be also the background of your banner, and you can choose it color by pressing CTR+F.
4.Go to Frame once again and click Duplcate, and clock OK
5.Select the Frame2 on the right pannel of flash desihner under Frame List pannel. Now use the select tool and resize the rectangle to be equal to the full size of the document.
6.Go back to Frame 1, select the rectangle (click on the rectangle) and choose Item > Actions > OnOver. Choose Go To Freame and select the Frame 2 in the combobox and click OK.
7.Go to Frame 2 select the rectangle (click on the rectangle) and choose Item > Actions >OnOu”. Choose Go To Freame and select the Frame 1 in the combobox and click OK.
8.Create animation effect. Go to Frame 2, select larger rectangle and choose Item > Intro > Tween In. Select Frame 1:Rectangle as the tween start and click OK.
The banner is now ready, and you can preview it by pressing the F9 on your keyboard. Now you can add the requiered text/animations under frame one and frame two. When you ready you have to save it by
1.Choosing Movie > Export Options and check Transparent option. Uncheck Show loader progress. Click OK.
2.Choose File > Export SWF file and save Flash file.
To can now embed the flash file in your web page, but you should use DIV tag with absolute positioning such as
<DIV STYLE=”position:absolute”>
…
</DIV>
<P>
<P>
Absolute position will take DIV content off the HTML flow and place it over the elements that follow DIV tag. To make some space for the smaller rectangle (so it doesn’t overlap the text) use few nbsp; and <P> tags.
If you want to check out my Macromedia Flash / Adobe Flash tutorial about expandable banners, suscribe to my feed, so you will get notified when i submit it.

Install Windows from USB
Have you ever wanted to install Windows from a USB ? Or you work as a services, and you have to format a PC but it doesn’t have a CD/DVD reader? Dont worry, thanks to WinToFlash you can now install Windows XP, Vista, and 7 onto a flash drive as well as Server 2003 and 2008. WinToFlash can also transfer Windows Preinstallation Environments to flash drive.
The process is simple and mostly obvious. You tell WinToFlash where the installation files you want to transfer are located and either let the transfer wizard take care of things, or specify settings like what kind of format the flash drive will undergo. In our test using a USB 2.0 generic flash drive it took about 12 minutes to turn a Windows 7 installation DVD into a USB-based installer.
WinToFlash is also freeware and of course it runs under Windows only. And please dont forget to setup the BIOS to boot from the Flash Drive first.

Jomfish & JCacheStorageJFDB.php
I had to install the JomFish 2.0.3 Stable on one of my Joomla 1.5.14 website today and i got an error:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or ‘}’ in /home//public_html/joomla/administrator/components/com_joomfish/classes/JCacheStorageJFDB.php on line 52
I had to do a research to find a solution to fix this error. The joomla and jomfish installation was clean so there was no dependecy error. I checked out the JomFish website and i read that all 2.0 and newer version of JomFish work only on Php 5.0 or newer. So I had to check the Php version under my host. And i saw that it was set to systems, default, which was probably php 4. I changed it to Php 5 and the jomfish started to work. If you face the same error here is how you can fix it:
1. Open your hosting’s cpanel
2. Go to Advanced tap, and click oh Php Configuration.
3. On the top of the page you can choose the Php version
4. Choose the Php 5 as version and click on the UPDATE button.
5. Thats all check out the JomFish now it will work.
How to Upgrade the Windows 7 RC to RTM (Final)
The final version of Windows 7 was released yesterday for MS Technet subscribers, but you can’t upgrade directly unless you do a litle hack which im going to show you now. You are unable to upgrade because a file cversion.ini checks the version before upgrading. Fortunately that can be fixed easily. If you use a ISO you will have to extract all files using an ISO extractor software or if you use an DVD, make a folder on your hard drive and copy all the files from DVD into the folder.
When you will have the Windows 7 final files on your HDD, open the folder and navigate to “sources: directory, where you will find the file cversion.ini. Open it and notepad will pop up, and you will see the text:
[HostBuilt]
MiniClient=7233.0
MiniServer=7100.0
Edit the MiniClient line to Miniclient=7000.0 so the notepad will look like this:

Click File->Save and close the notepad or your default ini editor. Now simply run Setup.exe from your HDD, click on the Install button, choose UPGRADE on the wizard and follow the steps. That’s all, nice and easy hack, which will save you lot of time porting application and documents to the new Windows 7 release.
Fix magicjack problems
Even that i am not a big fan of magic jack, I’ve noticed that many friends are using it to talk for free in US. Well one of them had problems installing it on its laptop so if you have the same problem here is how to fix it.
If you have Windows Vista first of all make sure that before wasting your time on installing magic jack, visit their website and download the upgrade for windows vista. If you have trouble finding it i have already don’t that for you and the link for download is: http://upgrades.magicjack.com/upgrade/upgrade.exe
However in some case, especially if you have limewire already installed on your PC, the upgrade might not fix the bug with the DVD/CD drive of your PC, because there is a misunderstanding in the priority drive. This bug can be fixed using regedit and here is how to do it:
1. Run regedit (Start->Run-> type “regedit” without quotes and clock OK)
2. Find the following key on the left window:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3. Delete the “UpperFilters” entry
4. Delete the “LowerFilters” entry
5. Close regedit
Now it’s time to restart the PC, and the magic jack drive should appear in my computers, so you can install their software but make sure you are connected to the Internet since it uses an active connection to download latest software data from internet.
If you’re still facing difficulties make sure you have delete the registry keys and retry the steps over again. You may also write a comment.
As i’ve mentioned before, im not a big fan on magic jack service, there are companies that offers unlimited calling in cheaper rates, and you can get an incoming number for free. But i admit that their USB jack is cool, and the sound quality is great, so i use it with other providers just to connect my telephone on the RJ11 jack. This can be dont thanks to tigerjet software, for which you can get more information on their website at http://www.tjnet.com/software/index.htm or maybe on some of my next posts. The software name that you should download is Tjinit and the current version is ver12.00

Boot.ini ART with ASCII Text
If you have more then one operating system on your PC, i bet you hate when you get stuck for like 30 seconds or till you chose the OS that you want to run. Well watching it one day, i got the idea to draw something on it using ASCII characters, and here is an example of what I have done:

Here is a video how to do it:
This demonstration is done under windows XP, but the process is similar in vista. If you use Unix/Linux, you can use my idea in almost the same way, just find the boot file of your Operating System and edit it just like i did with my boot.ini.
The website URL for converting your image (gif) to ASCII text is: http://www.glassgiant.com/ascii/ . This video has been recorded and hosted on screentoaster.com, an online website for recording your desktop without installing any additional software.
Installing UBUNTU on FAT or NTFS
Ubuntu can be easily installed on a windows drive (FAT or NTFS) without affecting your current OS installation and without splitting your drive on partition and converting them to different formats. This is all possible thanks to a application named WUBI.
“Wubi is an officially supported Ubuntu installer for Windows users that can bring you to the Linux world with a single click. Wubi allows you to install and uninstall Ubuntu as any other Windows application, in a simple and safe way. Are you curious about Linux and Ubuntu? Trying them out has never been easier!” and this is true because i tried it.
Wubi can be found at this URL: http://wubi-installer.org/latest.php. After you will download it from you windows OS simply run it and it will follow the wizard. It will automatically download ubuntu from ubuntu’s servers. The download was very slow when i tried it, but the installation was quick very quick and the procedures very easy. The installer size of this application is arround 1.5 MB so download it and give it a try.
