Jailbreak for Iphone 4

The easiest jailbreak method is alive now, and its compatible with all iDevices:  3G, 3GS and Iphone 4, running on of the following firmwares: 3.1.2, 3.1.3, iOs 4.0 or iOs 4.0.1. Basically everything is included. All you have to do is go to jailbreakme.com, “slide to jailbreak” and you are done. Now your iDevice will be jail broken remotely.

The new JailbreakMe solution is a Mobile Safari based remote jailbreak. This means you don’t need any computer or Mac to jailbreak your device. Just connect it to web, visit JailbreakMe.com and then it works like a charm. Even the iPad running iOS 3.2.1 can be jailbroken with this solution but you might face some annoyances.

Please note that their server are having troubled from time to time, because of the high traffic, so don’t be afraid if you cant open the URL. Also in the beginning some people reported that they were losing old text messages and some losing the ability to place a call using FaceTime. This was fixed very quickly by the Iphone_dev Team. New users wanting to jailbreak are fine now. To fix already jailbroken try updating Cydia and resetting network settings or just SSH and do the following:

For existing users, chmod 755 /private/var/mobile/Library; chmod 755 /private/var/mobile/Library/Preference then Reset Network Settings.

Currently i do not have the info if jaibreakme.com is a tethered or untethered jailbrake. I will update it as soon as i test it on my device.

Iphone_dev team also created a unlock for the iPhone 4 and will be holding a test period of 48 hours. If everything works like planned, a unlock for the iPhone 4 will be released after the test period. It is already working, but planetbeing just need to do some finishing touches. We will let you know when planetbeing released the iPhone 4 unlock.

Iphone 3GS is fully supported, both old bootrom and new bootrom. Now you dont have to check the bootrom version anymore.

Iphone DFU mode alternative

While i was tyring to put my Iphone in DFU mode, i had a lot of troubles that inspired me to write this post. My Iphone was going on and on in recovery mode instead of DFU. At fisrt i thought damn my Idevice is broken, because i spent an hour for a simple task. I was suspecting that my power button was malfunctioning, but i was wrong.

I tried the DFU software, i run the dfu.exe file from cmd, but it could not find my phone ( message: s _ Looking for iphone). I even tested the iRecovery but nothing was helping, except the most primitive way, by listening the sound of connecting and disconnecting the Iphone. All you hot to do is:

Step 1. Connect iphone to USB then listen to the sound when it connect and disconnect.

Step 2. Hold 2 buttons until hear disconnect sound then release power button.

Step 3. Wait until hear another sound then release home button.

If the Itunes detects your Idevice, but the screen is blank that mean that you’ve done it, but if the iphone restore logo keeps showing on your screen, you’ve missed it once again :) .

Firmware 3.1.3

I just saw that apple released very unexpectedly a new firmware today. I did not install it right away of course because i need a jaibrake and unlock, but i googled for it and here is what i have found so far:

. This update fixes several bugs and addresses stability, improving the accuracy of the reported battery level on the iPhone 3GS, resolving an issue where third party applications would not launch in some instances, and fixing a particular bug where some apps crash while using the Japanese Kana keyboard.

There’s also a bunch of security fixes:

  • Playing a maliciously crafted mp4 audio file may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution
  • Viewing a maliciously crafted TIFF image may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution
  • A person with physical access to a locked device may be able to access the user’s data
  • Accessing a maliciously crafted FTP server could result in an unexpected application termination, information disclosure, or arbitrary code execution
  • Mail may load remote audio and video content when remote image loading is disabled

Of course you can download it via Itunes, but wait for a unlock/jailbrake test by some1 else before you do so. I was expecting for the 4.0 version, but seems that we have to wait for it till the iPad becomes available to apple’s online store.

I repeat again: NO JAILBRAKE or UNLOCK information on firmware 3.1.3 at the moment.

redsn0w for 3.1.2

Dev-Team finaly released a windows version of redsn0w, which is going to jaibrake any iphone model with the 3.1.2 firmware. It was in beta version for a long time, and its finaly out the final version redn0w 0.9 and you can download it from dev-teams website. However you will be disapointed because it is still a teathered jailbrake, because it uses the same bug as blackra1n does, and it means that to power up the phone, it must be connected to your pc via USB cable.

There are some additional future such as changing the logo during iphone boot-up. But its a good thing to try it in case you have problems with Wifi, because as i prevously reported, some Iphones are unable to detect any wireless, because blacra1n brakes it on some models.

This version of redsn0w does not provide an untethered jailbreak for those of you with brand new iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 2G, or any iPod touch 3G. redsn0w will jailbreak those but it will still be a tethered jailbreak until some new exploit is found and released.

Wifi stay connected

Have you ever wanted to keep you Wifi connection always ON in you Iphone, but as soon as you lock your iphone or undock it from the USB cable the WiFi gets disconnected. By defoault this is how it works, because the apple configured it this way, so it will save your battery from getting discharged. And logicaly this is how it should be because the smart apple people dont let you run any kind of application in background and they dont support multi tasking.

But I do have a jailbroken Iphone, which lets me run apps in background now thanks to some application which can be found in Cydia. However if im connected to my wireless internet connection, and i put my messenger app (fring, ebuddy, parilno…) it gets disconnected as soon as i lock my iphone, or it gets locked autinmaticly becouse of the autolock feature and this realy pisses me off.

I did search on internet for a hack on this issue for a long time, but today it came up by its self right before my eyes. While i was looking for a new releases under cydia, i saw an application named Insomnia Pro 4.0. And this application does the same thing i am talking about, it keeps your iphone wireless connected even when its inactive. It allows any applications to continue to run and WiFi to stay connected long after the screen has been switched off. Runs as a background daemon with a status bar icon and survives reboots and re-springs. This Pro version also allows you to set a schedule for when Insomnia will become active.

It really cost 1.99 GBP (which is apromaxitly 4$), but you can use the free version which does not have only the Schedule option. Thanks to this app now i can use my old 2g iphone as a cordless Voip phone, because i can configure it as a voip client, and thanks to insomnia, its going to be connected and active forever in the background.

Cydia not opening

After a month I’m finaly back thanks to an error which showed up on my cydia, which inspired me to write the new post. Yesterday while i was showing some application to my brother under cydia it started crashing on both Iphone 3Gand Iphone 3GS. I thought my Internet connection was cousin it, because the cydia was closing as soon as it was trying to search for new relases. So i tried to run Cydia under my cellphone carrier internet , cydia got closed again automatically right after the loading data message.

After few hours i did find that the problem was caused by the zodttd source. The solution is very easily if you got mobile terminal just lounch the application and then do the following.

1. Type “su root” (without quotes)

2. Enter the root password for the Iphone (in case you havn’t changed it the default is “alpine”)

3. Type “cd /var/lib/apt/lists/” and press reutrn on keyboard

4. Type “del cydia.zodttd*” make sure to include that * on the end and press return.

That’s all now you can start cydia, and it will start working again. You can also do this by SSH.

All Iphone firmwares are affected, im sure about 3.1.2, 3.1 and 3.0.

Mutifl0w multitasking

Finaly the first multitasking app for Iphone will be available next week. Of course it will be available for jaibroken devices only.
Multifl0w is a new iPhone utility which lets you easily switch between background applications. It works in a similar way as backgrounder, but you can switch from one app to another without going through spring board which is so cool. You can press the home button twice, and you can see all the applications that are running on the background, and you even have the latest screen shot of the app before multiflow puts it on background.
The only thing that i would like to try is if the camera video recording can work in background. If you have noticed, if you put the camera app in background while recording, it will stop the recording process. I got this problem in my 3gs. When i had the 1st gen and iphone 3g, i was using cycoder which worked great on background, and i could spy anything with the Iphone because it was recording while the iphone was locked and the screen was black :) .
Developer Aaron Ash hopes to have Multifl0w on the Cydia Store soon. In the meanwhile you can check out a video demonstration below…

Appulo answer

THE CURRENT PASSWORD/ANSWER IS: cavern

Read the full post, very useful info

I will be travelling the next 24h so i can not update the password temporaty, and i strongly advice you to read this post about an appulous alternative sajt by clicking here.

Also read below to find out where to get the latest answer for appulo.us question of the day.

1. Subscribe on my blog so you will get email notification about each new password.
2. Follow me on twitter
3. Read the info below, which will help you to find the latest answer of appulous:

A friend asked me why i cant access appulo anymore, so i said let’s give it a try. Appulo.us does not allow anyone to access their app archive without having an answer to the question posted on their website. They do update the question up to two time per day, and there is no universal answer at the moment. Some questions are very are very simple such as: If the permissions are r-xrwxrwx, who can’t write? Answer: owner. But some of them really are non sense because they ask you question about their hosting, nicknames and so on.

The best place to get the password at the moment is the facebook page of appulo http://www.facebook.com/appulous , where their fans spread their knowledge and help other users. You can find the answer there right after the question is posted.

Dont waste your time on blogs of youtube videos, because they are just tring to earn from their advertisments on their website. The only updated and working site for appulo answers is their own official facebook page.

According to appulo this is just temporary, they are going to give access without question as soon as they find a new hosting, so they will balance the traffic to many other servers, they cant handle the current traffic. Till then good luck :) .

Please note that i am not responsible for the damage that Appulo.us might cause to Apple Iphone Store. Using illegal application is a crime so beaware. Use it at your own risk. Use Appulo only to find out if your app is cracked, to protect your app if its beeing copied by unauthorized users or simple for education purpose.

Blacksn0w wifi problems

I got an email from a user that was complaining that he’s wifi is not working on the Iphone after blacksn0w. And I did a little research on the Internet and that is TRUE. This issue is mostly common for 3G version and very rare on the 3GS. So far both my 3G and 3GS works fine on Internet.

GeoHot did a research also and they say that it is not a Blacksn0w unlock app bug, but is Apple’s 3.1.2 firmware bug. Blacksn0w does not cause the problem at all. GeoHot can fix it and we’re waiting for for the new BlackSn0w RC2 (which will fix the Iphone bug).

In mean while you can try a “Reset Network Settings”

Many users are also reporting Push problems and You tube error on the new 3.1.2 firmware. You can fix that by downloading ”Push Fix” which can be found at  http://cydia.iphoneil.net”, add that source to cydia, and install Push Fix.

Please also note: If your ipt2/3GS/ipt3 is rebooting into recovery after running blackra1n, this isn’t a bug. It’s a feature. You need to run blackra1n every time to boot it. This ‘feature’, called tethered jailbreak, is enabled by upgrades Apple made to the bootrom and the fact ipt3 uses nand flash.

And in the end make sure your install AppSync for 3.1.2 (you’ll find it under the name appsync 3.1 but works for 3.1.2) or Installd for 3.1.2 which are basicly the mipatch for 3.1.2 (mipatch is the old name). Use the search box to find more info from my previous posts.

First Worm SSH

A week a go a German hacker wrote that he had hacked several Iphone on T-mobile Germany with some simple tools from his PC. He scanned the T-Mobile 3g IP range, and he got like thousands of IP with the SSH port open (port 22). Then using a simple SSH client such as putty, he got connected to them with the default Iphone room password which is:

Username: root

Password: alpine

Today on Australia, a hacker wrote a worm thanks to this issue reported by the German hacker, and the worm now its spreading across the Australia. It is not very dangerous, because it simple changes the wallpaper of your Iphone with a nasty singer from the 80’s :) . This worm affects only the JAILBROKEN Iphones, and it is easily to protect, and i recommend you to perform this steps right away.

1. First Open Cydia,  wait for the leading process and click on Search icon which is located on the bottom right side.

2. Write Terminal or Mobile Terminal, and the application will show up, click over its name.

3. On the top right side you will have to click on Install and Confirm. Wait few sec for the cydia to finish the installation

4. Close the Cydia and find the Mobile Terminal Icon on your Iphone springboard.

5. Run Mobile Terminal and a screen similar to Linux command prompt will show up.

6. Type without quotes “passwd” and press return

7. Will prompt you to enter the old password, so type the default iphone password which is “alpine” without quotes.

8. Now it will prompt you to write a news password. Choose any password which is more then 5 letters, any password which you’ll choose will be better then your default one. Press return when you’ll finish.

9. You will have to confirm the chosen password once again, so enter it and press return.

10. That’s all your safe.

You might say ok so what if the hacker replaces my wallpaper foto, BIG DEAL :) , your wrong my brother. It is very easily to write a new worm, which will upload all your camera roll photos from iphone to flickr on some ftp server, and i bet you have something to hide there. Also if you connect to a public WIFI, any user with a laptop and a software such as WinSCP can connect to your Iphone and within a minute he can download all pic, videos, songs … from your Iphone to hes/her laptop hard drive.

Another way to protect is to disable the SSH on your jailbroken Iphone. You can do this also very easily from SB setting using the SSH togles. If you cant see it on your screen, go to SBSettings option and configure it to display the SSH toggle.
